Most ceiling fans come ready to install on an 8 ceiling.

Hunter fans are compatible with single threaded downrods while hunter original fans require a double threaded downrod.
For a ceiling below 8 feet we recommend a flushmount or hugger fan.
For taller ceilings many fan manufacturers suggest dropping a ceiling fan all the way down to 8 to 9 feet from floor level.
For example if your ceiling is 12 feet high and your ceiling fan is 12 inches in height you will need a 24 inch downrod to mount the ceiling fan between eight and nine feet above the floor.

Ceiling height in feet minus 9 includes the fan height downrod length for example if your ceiling is 12 high you will need a 3 downrod to ensure the fan is positioned at the proper height.
