Hunter fans are compatible with single threaded downrods while hunter original fans require a double threaded downrod. For a ceiling below 8 feet we recommend a flushmount or hugger fan. For taller ceilings many fan manufacturers suggest dropping a ceiling fan all the way down to 8 to 9 feet from floor level. For example if your ceiling is 12 feet high and your ceiling fan is 12 inches in height you will need a 24 inch downrod to mount the ceiling fan between eight and nine feet above the floor.

This downrod chart helps us to determine which downrod size you need for your fan based on the height of the ceiling. Ceiling height in feet minus 9 includes the fan height downrod length for example if your ceiling is 12 high you will need a 3 downrod to ensure the fan is positioned at the proper height. You can also refer to the downrod length chart below for additional guidance in selecting the right measurement. This is a fan without a downrod.
