To replace a light socket in the ceiling you ll need some basic electrician s tools to complete the job safely. Check to see that the bulbs are screwed into their sockets. Assemble the necessary tools and parts. Replacing your ceiling fan light socket should require approximately 20 minutes of your time.

At other times the light won t come on at all. Turn off the power to the fixture at the breaker box then pry up the little metal tab at the base of the socket using a small screwdriver. Wipe the inside of the socket with a soft cloth. But before you disassemble the light try this quick fix.

Sometimes a tab gets pressed down too far and fails to make contact with the bulb tip. If you replace a burned out bulb and the new bulb blows immediately when the switch is flipped on the socket has a problem. Restore power and test the light with a good bulb. Check that the bulbs have the proper wattage for the ceiling fan light assembly.

Insert a light bulb socket cleaning brush into the ceiling fan light socket to clean any corrosion from the sides of the socket. Step 1 turn off power.
